Tanina is a professor at Georgetown Law and a faculty director of Georgetown’s Technology Law and Policy Institute. In 2012, she created the “Iron Tech Lawyer” program, one of the earliest law school classes that teaches students to build digital tools to help users navigate the legal system and provide information about the legal system. More recently launched the Justice Lab at Georgetown, a research center dedicated to addressing unmet legal needs. Tanina’s research explores how data and social science can improve knowledge of legal problems and develop interventions to improve access. A faculty director of Georgetown’s Technology Law and Policy Institute, Tanina is the principal investigator on an NSF grant to develop a research agenda that uses data science and AI techniques to study barriers to access to the civil legal system.
