Monica Yu, Chief Development Officer at California Rural Legal Assistance, Inc. (CRLA), provides leadership and strategic direction for CRLA’s Resource Development and Communications Department. In her role at CRLA, Monica leads grants, individual and corporate giving, and marketing and communications. Prior to joining California Rural Legal Assistance, Monica led institutional giving at Girl Scouts of Northern California, where she oversaw grant funding for programs, operations, and a $20 million capital campaign. Monica earned her Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification in 2016, and she holds an MA in Rhetoric from The Pennsylvania State University and a BA in English from University of California, Davis. Monica is a native of California, and currently lives with her husband and three children in Oakland, CA. Before moving to the non profit field, Monica taught writing courses at Penn State and Diablo Valley College, including Rhetoric and Composition, Business Writing, and Critical Thinking.
