The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) presents an opportunity to re-imagine and improve our civil justice system. How could legal aid programs use AI to help more people? How can courts use AI to optimize and improve services? How can attorneys and judges benefit from this new technology while fulfilling their professional duties and protecting the public? What role can technology companies play? How can AI be used to close the access to justice gap and help the growing number of self-represented litigants? These discussions have begun to take place around the country. For example, the State Bar of California appointed a task force to study how to improve access through innovation of legal services (ATILS). Arizona, Utah, and Illinois have similar initiatives. In this session we will bring together a diverse panel of experts to explore legal AI from different perspectives.
